Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre has added exercise physiology to its allied health offerings, along with a new purpose built gym. Exercise Physiologists are university trained professionals specialising in chronic disease management who can help with physical rehab, tailored exercise programs and behavioural coaching.
We are now offering a range of exercise programs to service our patients and the community in our newly furnished gym area used for group and individual training. These programs include:
The Exercise as Medicine Program – this program aims to improve the physical health of patients over 50 with:
- Painful osteoarthritis of hip or knee
- Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease (on stable medications)
- Chronic heart failure (on stable medications)
If you have one of these conditions you can book in for a free assessment with our exercise physiologists and then receive ongoing exercise support through the program
Group Exercise Classes – These focus on general strength, cardiovascular health, falls prevention and balance and anyone can attend these classes but to join you first need to undergo a pre-exercise screen with our exercise physiologists which you can book at reception. These classes run for an hour on:
- Tuesday 10.30
- Wednesday 10.30
- Thursday 11.30
Type 2 Diabetes – if you have type 2 diabetes you are eligible for an initial exercise assessment and up to 8 group exercise classes under medicare for the calendar year. Please get a referral from your GP to the exercise physiologists if interested.
We hope to add more group exercise offerings as time goes on. If you are interested in any of the above please get in contact through the reception.
We have also just received a grant from Exercise and Sports Science Australia!
“The Exercise Right for Active Ageing Project (ERAA)” is funded by Sport Australia as part of the Move it AUS – Better Ageing Grants Program. The grant will provide subsidies for an initial mini-assessment and group exercise classes for older Australians. For both the exercise assessment and classes, the participant is required to provide a co-payment.
The eligibility criteria for participants are:
